解剖室 ‎– 髑髏 (Dissection Room EP)

Strange record here. Weird and awesome Japanese punk released by HG-Fact in 2008. It's a bit reminiscent of the old hardcore stuff on ADK back in the 80's, but with a more contemporary production. I got it from a friend who always got copies of new imported stuff at the time, and I seem to remember him saying that this is a CROW side project. I'll admit, and it may be somewhat apparent by the existing content on this blog, that I've never really ridden the Japanese hardcore/punk wave as hard as most - I like a lot of it, but just don't really listen to it as much as brilliant shit like, oh, POST REGIMENT or NEWTOWN NEUROTICS. This EP however really stood out to me and seems kind of elusive, so I urge you to give it a try! And maybe count the all the weird penises in the artwork...

PIOGGIA NERA - Teatri Di Menzogne LP

Today's post is inspired by a comment left recently on the STIGMATHE post I did the past week. Though I have to disagree with the guest's opinion that the music on the disc is boring, I will agree with their suggestion that NERORGASMO was a band that was pretty hard to top. Their elusive EP from 1985 has remained out of my reach for years, but luckily F.O.A.D. records is releasing a long-awaited and seemingly deluxe/thorough discography of NERORGASMO's material. It looks like it will be one of those reissues that will qualify as a substantial substitute for original pressings. Can't wait!

Anyhow, this LP by Italy's PIOGGIA NERA is obviously cut from the same cloth as those old dark Italian punk/hardcore bands, especially NERORGASMO. The result is thrillingly evil punk with simple instrumentation and arrangements - mostly dirgey, but boiling over into a gallop from time to time. Vocals range from gravelly-punk style to a near death-metal style, but is always wild and theatrical in nature. A fucking amazing LP that holds up still 7 years later.

Χαοτική Διάσταση - Πολίτες Της Κόλασης EP

My posting has been infrequent lately, and I want to apologize by presenting this magnificent and rare Greek EP. The name translates to CHAOTIC DIMENSION, the title is "Citizens of Hell," and the sound is brilliant melodic punk. Released by the prominent Greek label Wipe Out! in the early 90's, this EP carries on much in the tradition of glum-vocaled and melodic-guitared sound of the bands coming out of Athens in the 80's, but CHAOTIC DIMENSION hailed from the Peloponnese city of Patra. They also released a decent LP a few years later, but this EP truly captures them at their best. Definitely one of my favorite punk records from Greece!

FIFTH COLUMN - All-time Queen Of The World LP

Don't have much info on this band, and don't feel like doing a lot of researching right now - but all you need to know is that this is a rare and amazing post-punk record by seemingly awesome women from Canada.

STIGMATHE - Lo Sguardo Dei Morti EP

I just heard a cool STIGMATHE reissue the other day, so I got inspired to post their second EP. This is definitely one of my favorite hardcore EP's from Europe in the 80's! On the two faster songs they captured such a primal sound, decorated with awesome dark guitar leads and urgent yells, and rooted by punchy bass and drumming. Even the reggae song on the B side is amazing - not the case with many failed attempts by other hardcore bands of the time! Check out their first EP here, and the reissue, which contains both EP's, comp tracks, and some rare live and rehearsal room stuff! The guitarist went on to play in a goth band called THELEMA, that apparently still plays.

TERCER MUNDO - EP

I only recently got my hands on one of these, but better late than never! One of the highest acclaimed records released from the punk world in 2012, TERCER MUNDO's EP is a provocative and scathing offering. The pure DIY effort put into the screen-printed sleeve and hand-folded/stapled booklet is awesome, while the images and content are frightening - severed heads and limbs, cadavers, and piles of bodies, though much more effective than the hordes of stock gore-grind and copycat crust releases filling the used bins. All the images are presumably of victims of the ubiquitous violence in Mexico as a result of the escalating drug wars. Under a sickening photo of a dead, armless and legless young woman, reads: "MEXICO 2012 - 60,000 HUMAN BEINGS DEAD. NOW GO PARTY AND SCORE SOME COCAINE." Throw on the record, and the eerie intro sets the desperate tone for the hardcore chaos that follows. Don't miss this distorted and original-sounding hardcore punk from Monterrey.

Also---it was brought to my attention recently that my audio files are in mono, not stereo...here I was all proud of myself for figuring out how to digitize my music and make a blog, despite my lack of knowledge/experience with such technologies, and I've been giving you all mono files all along. I'll take the fact that no one else has noticed as an indication that this discrepancy is not terribly important to most blog trollers, but I think I have figured out how to do them in stereo now. However, I simply don't have the time or energy to go back and re-rip every release, because I do other things too. If you really really really need something stereo-fied that I've previously posted, just write and ask politely, and I'll get around to it. Today's post, by the way, IS in stereo!

PYLON - Cool/Dub

I was skimming the dates under the "labels" list over on the right hand side of my blog there, and noticed that there were a few years missing from the list. So I selected today's post with the sole purpose of creating a "1979" label. Pretty neurotic huh?

Ok, it's not the only reason. A better reason would be that the debut single from this Athens (Georgia, not Greece) post punk band is infectious and amazing! "Dub" is a great repetitive but swelling and angular answer to GANG OF FOUR, and the like. The flip is the more appealing track to me, and it's made many of my mix tapes in past years. Featuring some similar characteristics as the A side, "Cool" further incorporates the classic punk (well, rock or pop too I guess...but this is a punk blog) "verse-chorus-verse-chorus" structure, and highly memorable and catchy one's at that. Such a strong post punk classic from such an odd location. From the same scene as the B-52's!

ANHREFN - The Dave Goodman Sessions LP

ANHREFN is one of the only punk bands I know that sings in Welsh. They began as YR ANHREFN in the early 80's and released a single, released their first great LP as ANHREFN in 1897, and did a few more records through the 90's.This is classic sounding, catchy, upbeat punk - like a poppier COCK SPARRER mixed with a little bit of new wave. Best song on the album is "Gwlad Y Rhydd" - because it reminds me of the more epic sounding NEW MODEL ARMY songs! I don't know much else about them, but I do have their first LP, and I'm saving it to post further down the line!

C.H. ‎– No Seas Como Ellos EP

Blistering hardcore punk from Colombia, with a heavy nod to CRUDOS. You oughtn't need more persuasion to download it than that. "Una Dia Como Cualquiera," the wimpy melodic track, is the standout to this dork.

KALASHNIKOV - Sub Version LP

After an incredible and now highly sought after EP, Denmark's KALASHNIKOV dropped this astonishing LP of melodic post punk. This LP covers the full spectrum of the genera; an impressive representation of the gradation of the many styles that can be described as "post punk." And most importantly, it's fucking fun! Palpitating rhythms - from angular to straight and fast, thick and punchy bass lines, ear-catching guitar leads, and captivating and melodic female vocals. "Skinnende Stål" is my pick of the bunch - familiar in melody, but manifested only in a way that KALASHNIKOV could do it - an amazing song! Rare LP, and mandatory for fans of punk, and post punk alike.

FUN PEOPLE - Angustia, No, No. 10"

First 10" post on Music Not Noize! Also maybe the closest to "pop-punk," though this particular record has more than it's fair share of aggressiveness and hardcore elements. If you're lucky, you've seen the latest incarnation of this project in the form of BOOM BOOM KID (maybe just the singer Nekro's brainchild?). Anyhow, the similarities between FUN PEOPLE and BB KID are obvious, leading me to believe that their vibrant and spastic frontman is responsible for much of the songwriting. The style from this Argentinian powerhouse is melodic and ferocious, and the vocalist has an incredible voice. He can really sing - and incorporate a totally unique pop sensibility into the tunes without causing them to lose any steam. Amazing record! And if BOOM BOOM KID are coming to your town, you HAVE to see them - I guarantee they will be one of the best live bands you'll ever see, and everyone in the room will have big stupid smiles on their faces the whole time.

TILT - Runął Już Ostatni Mur... EP

Cool Polish punk 7" from 1985. This is the only material I've heard by TILT, aside from their track on the "Fala" compilation, but they also released a couple albums and singles. They play driving and upbeat punk, extremely catchy, with a fluttering but tasteful saxophone player. Not really much else to say here - I'd love to hear their other stuff. I know their material isn't hard to track down; I suppose I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Also it appears that someone decided to add a doodle or two on my copy...
